About The Stable Classroom

Everybody is a genius, but if you judge a fish by the ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that is stupid.              Albert Einstein

Some argue that Einstein didn’t actually say this… but whether he did or he didn’t the fact remains it is a truly powerful statement. Since Victorian times, the way education has been delivered has remained largely unchanged. We still expect children to remain seated in a classroom for long periods, and while schools have invested in alternative curriculum activities like Forest School and manipulative learning, most of the day is timetabled to be sedentary in a classroom, learning formally. Generally, it works well for the majority of children, however there are some children who find traditional learning style difficult for many reasons. Then to further compound this we make judgements based on their ability to pass a test, or how well they can read, and for some children this has a powerful and detrimental effect on their confidence, their self-esteem and their wellbeing.

Here at The Stable Classroom we take a different approach to learning, while we cannot promise to cater for all learning styles we can offer a unique experience for individual children, based on their interests and hobbies. We aim to provide focused literacy and numeracy sessions drawing on equine and animal husbandry. In short, we use learning activities that are far removed from those set out in a typical classroom setting. For some children we can might focus on equine or animal themed questioning, for others we apply a practical element to tasks, engaging core muscle groups while allowing children to focus on learning activities.

We learn best when we are engaged and having fun, so we put the emphasis on our learning experiences being fun and engaging! As a qualified teacher with a specialism in SEN, I want to change the way young people engage in their learning, I want us to celebrate our differences, not make children feel like they have to conform. I want to empower young people to take control of their learning, to understand we all learn differently and to support them to find their preferred learning style and utilise this strength to realise their full potential and be the very best version of themselves.

The Stable Classroom aims to offer a bespoke learning environment, in a calm and tranquil setting using a range of resource from Mother Nature, to our equine companions and canine friends. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you would like to know more about what we can offer or if you would like to join our team.
